Episode 1 – Counterculture comes to Town
Logline: The View From Up Here is a six-part educational series that provides a glimpse into the not-so-distant past of Thunder Bay.
Synopsis:
The View From Up Here is a six-part educational series that provides a glimpse into the not-so-distant past of Thunder Bay, Ontario and the Lakehead region. It is the latest output from a “found footage” project called Reel Memories of the Lakehead. The format for the series relies on an on-air host who provides a satirical presentation of historical events as they were experienced at the Lakehead. The primary visual sources for the series are news clips shot between 1958 and 1978 by CKPR TV, archival film footage and a variety of visual elements which are used to shape the stories being told. Each episode begins with an introduction to the theme, providing both a history and a context before moving on to an exploration of the local angle, or if you like, “The View From Up Here.”
The View From Up Here looks at select events from a Canadian perspective. It was created by Ronald Harpelle of the Department of History at Lakehead University. Together with a team of writers, filmmakers, and animators, The View From Up Here brings to light a series of twentieth century events at the Lakehead.
